GVN Translational Medicine and Clinical Research

Infectious diseases are emerging or reemerging almost every year. The majority of emerged diseases have been associated with viral diseases, such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), West Nile, avian influenza, H1N1 flu (2009 swine flu), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), and Ebola, and Zika. Certain viral pathogens (i.e., human immunodeficiency virus, HIV) are a formidable and constant challenge to humanity. Currently, the cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have continued to surge across the globe.

GVN Academic Centers of Excellence and Affiliates and Healthcare and Pharma Centers of Excellence Coalition are dedicated to conducting translational medicine and clinical research with interdisciplinary research effort. Our researchers are leading efforts to develop cutting-edge interventional strategies (i.e., diagnostics; antiviral drugs and monoclonal antibody therapies; and traditional and recombinant vaccines) to prevent infectious diseases. The outcomes of this research can be evaluated for their clinical application. Our centers are equipped with capacity and resources to conduct clinical studies for evaluating the efficacy of various types of therapeutics and vaccines.
