The Australian Infectious Disease Research Centre (AIDRC) is a multidisciplinary research centre linking research groups with expertise in virology, bacteriology, parasitology and clinical research at the University of Queensland (UQ) and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute (QIMRB). AID’s mission is to utilize leading technologies to identify, understand and prevent infectious diseases. While the primary strength of the Virology discipline at the AID is in arbovirology, primarily flaviviruses and alphaviruses, AID members also have internationally recognised expertise in Influenza, HPV, HIV, Ebola, RSV, MERS and SARS-CoV-2.

The Centre for Emerging Viruses, Inflammation and Therapeutics (EVIT) is helping find new ways to treat debilitating diseases caused by mosquito-borne viruses such as chikungunya, Zika and dengue viruses and other emerging viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 and Hendra. Our team of world-class virologists are leading in-depth investigations into viral diseases, their pathogenesis, treatment and prevention as well as virus-host interactions.
