The Global Virus Network’s (GVN) Global Guardians: Youth for Pandemic Preparedness initiative is a free, immersive, and future-focused three-day experience for Tampa's high school students designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and inspire the next generation of scientists and public health leaders.
Hosted at the University of South Florida, GVN's international headquarters, this unique camp brings students face-to-face with world-renowned virologists, epidemiologists, and public health experts. Through interactive sessions, behind-the-scenes lab and hospital tours, hands-on demos, games, and real-world problem-solving, students will gain insight into how pandemics start, how viruses spread, and how science saves lives.
While no prior knowledge of virology or public health is required, students should have a strong interest in science and have completed a biology class. The camp is designed to make complex topics approachable and exciting, whether you’re dreaming of a career in medicine, research, or global health, or just want to understand how the world responds to pandemics.
With sessions on virus transmission, outbreak detection, misinformation in media, and careers in science, this camp offers more than just learning; it provides a look into the future of health security and your possible role.
