April 2016: Zika Virus Webinar

April 26, 2016.  The emergence of the Zika virus had already heightened concern among U.S. businesses and other institutions when, on April 6, 2016, the U.S. State Department declared that an international outbreak of the virus is sustained, severe and is spreading internationally. Health officials are concerned that the rate of infection will accelerate throughout the Americas during this summer’s mosquito season. February 2015: GVN Business Leadership Council Expert Webinar on Influenza

On February 12, 2015 the GVN BLC hosted a webinar for business leaders on influenza. Leading Flu Expert Dr. Peter Palese of the Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine provided an update on the 2014-2015 flu epidemic; explained how the annual flu vaccine missed the mark; described his research to develop a universal flu vaccine that would obviate the need for annual vaccines; and answered questions about influenza’s impact on businesses.

January 2015: GVN Business Leadership Council Expert Webinar on Chikungunya in the Americas

On January 27, 2015 the GVN BLC hosted an expert webinar for business leaders to discuss the ongoing outbreak of Chikungunya in the Americas and its implications for the private sector. GVN Chikungunya Task Force Co-Chairs Dr. Scott Weaver of the Institute of Human Infections and Immunity at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and Dr. Marc Lecuit of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, updated participants on the status of epidemic in the Americas; discussed the likely spread of the virus; described the latest research on vaccines and therapeutics; and answered questions about the outbreak’s potential impact on businesses, travel, and commerce.
