Business Leadership Council

The Global Virus Network (GVN) recognizes the major role and contributions of the business community as a partner in stemming the spread of viral diseases worldwide. Multinational corporations and businesses with international interests are vital partners in preparations against potential pandemics and in stopping the spread of viruses as they appear. Health – and more specifically viral threats – represents a top material issue for many corporations as viral epidemics inflicts serious health, economic and social impacts. As we have seen in recent years in the cases of SARS, H1N1, MERS and now with Ebola and Chikungunya, viral outbreaks tend to spread rapidly beyond national borders, accompanied by panic, uncertainty, and losses to workforces, productivity and revenue streams.

GVN launched the Business Leadership Council (BLC) in November 2014 to link companies with GVN’s network of top virus researchers, creating a platform for information exchange to strengthen international viral preparedness and response. The BLC highlights the private sector’s role in viral outbreak preparedness and response through:

  • webinars with leading virologists;
  • analysis of ongoing outbreaks and vaccine/drug development;
  • workshops for business leaders;
  • customized guidance for member companies; and
  • advocacy.
